Dr. David J. Calabro received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the Richard Stockton College of NJ. He obtained his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Life University in Marietta, Georgia where he graduated with honors and pediatric certification.

He also received his certification in Clinical Nutrition from the Clinical Nutrition Certification Board in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Calabro is also trained in the practice of fasting patients who wish to undergo a prolonged, water-only detoxification fast. He is the co-author of a published scientific paper entitled, “Case Reports of Medically Supervised Water-Only Fasting Associated With Remission of Autoimmune Disease.”

In this episode Dr. Calabro discusses the role of functional medicine. In his practice he combines traditional practices with alternative and integrative medicine. This means he can focus on not just treatment but prevention through diet, exercise and lifestyle changes.  Supplementation and stress management also play an integral part in functional medicine.

Show Notes: Dr. David Seaman DC has been writing about chronic inflammation for 25 years. He wrote the first published scientific article about how diet can induce inflammation and promote pain. Researchers at the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Harvard Medical School have referenced his articles about pain, inflammation, diet, and obesity.

He is the author of “The DeFlame Diet”, which focuses on how to measure and reduce chronic inflammation through dietary means. It is the most detailed book on this topic that is written for the general public. If you want a simple approach to diet, the DeFlame approach is the way to go.

I also discussed the importance of proper digestion and that 70% -80% of your immune system is in your gut. Saliva testing, hair analysis, blood chemistry analysis, neurotransmitter testing and other methods of determining a patient’s health were also explained.
